Ultimate Chocolate Brownies

Brownies:
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa
½ teaspoon baking soda
¾ cup margarine, divided
½ cup water
2 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs
1½ cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup semisweet mini chips
1 cup pecans

Frosting:
6 Tablespoons margarine (softened)
½ cup unsweetened cocoa
2¾ cups confectioners sugar
¼ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350º F. Grease a 13 x 9-inch pan.

Brownies: Combine cocoa, baking soda, ½ cup margarine and water in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil, stirring until mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in sugar and blend well. Add eggs and remaining ¼ cup melted margarine. Stir until smooth. Add flour, vanilla and salt; blend completely. Stir in mini chips and pecans. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until brownies pull away from the side of the pan. Cool completely in pan.

Frosting: Cream 6 Tablespoons margarine, then add ½ cup cocoa, confectioners sugar and milk. Blend in vanilla extract. Add more milk if necessary for proper spreading consistency. Spread on cooled brownies. Cut brownies into squares. Yield: 3 dozen brownies.
