Ultimate Chocolate Chunk Cookies

½ cup margarine, softened
½ cup shortening
½ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 egg
2 cups all purpose flour
1 (12-ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chunks
1 cup toasted pecan pieces

Preheat oven to 375º F.

In a large bowl, combine margarine, shortening, sugars and vanilla extract. Beat until creamy. Add salt and baking soda; mix until well blended. Beat in egg. Gradually add flour; mix well. With a wooden spoon, mix in chocolate chunks and pecans. Drop by rounded teaspoons, 2-inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes. Remove to a wire rack and cool completely. Yield: 36-48 cookies.
