Spaghetti and Meat Sauce

1 pound ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 (14½-ounce) can whole tomatoes
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon basil
¾ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon fresh ground pepper
¾ cup water
1 pound spaghetti, cooked according to package directions

In a large skillet, brown ground beef. Place in a colander and rinse with hot water until the water runs clean (to remove fat). Wipe skillet clean with paper towel. Add onions and garlic. Cook over medium heat 5 minutes; add ground beef and remaining ingredients. Mix well. Cover and simmer over low heat for 3 hours, stirring occasionally and adding additional water if necessary. Correct seasonings. Serve over spaghetti. Yield: 4 servings.
