Fantastic 24-Hour Seven Layer Salad

1 small head of lettuce
½ green pepper, sliced
½ red pepper, sliced
½ cup celery, chopped
½ cup red Spanish onion, chopped
1 (10-ounce) package frozen peas, uncooked
1½ cups mayonnaise
2 Tablespoons sugar
1½ cups grated Cheddar cheese
8 slices crisp fried bacon, crumbled

Line a 9 x 13-inch pan with bite-sized pieces of lettuce. Sprinkle with green and red pepper slices. Sprinkle celery on pepper slices; then add onion in one layer. Top with green peas, uncooked.

Combine mayonnaise and sugar; spread over vegetable layers. Sprinkle cheese over mayonnaise and top with crumbled bacon. Refrigerate overnight. Yield 10 to 12 servings.
