Place onions in saucepan; cover with salted water. Cook over medium heat until softened, about 15 minutes. Drain in colander; set aside. Melt butter in a saucepan. Add flour and stir to blend. Whisk in milk and cook over medium heat until smooth and thickened. Add salt, pepper and onions. Stir well to blend. Serve over fresh steamed vegetables. Yield: 1½ cups. |
