Equipment

  • 12-inch Cast Iron Skillet or 5-qt Le Creuset Braiser
  • 16-slice apple cutter
  • Vegetable Peeler

Ingredients

  • ½ c Unsalted Butter
  • ½ c Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbs Ground Cinnamon
  • 6 large Granny Smith Apples

Instructions

  • Wash the apples well. Then, peel them using a vegetable peeler. Using a 16-slice apple cutter, cut the peeled apples into 16 ½-inch slices1, and discard the core. Place the apple slices in a bowl and set aside until ready to use.
  • Melt the unsalted butter in a large cast iron skillet2 over medium heat.
  • Add the light brown sugar and cinnamon to the skillet. Stir the mixture until everything is well incorporated and the brown sugar has dissolved.
  • Add the sliced apples and stir to coat them with the butter mixture. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 15 minutes until the apples are slightly softened. Serve warm.
  • Yield 12 servings

Notes

  1. If you don't have a 16-slice apple cutter that's ok, a large apple cut into 16 slices will yield ½-inch slices. If you only have an 8-slice apple cutter, that's ok, simply cut all of the slices in half.
  2. I used my 5-qt. Le Creuset Braiser.
