    Chocolate Christmas Mice

Chocolate Christmas Mice are just in time for the holidays. They're sure to bring a twinkle to the eyes of the grown-ups and a smile to the faces of your little ones. They are easy to make, albeit a bit finicky.

    Chocolate Christmas Mice

    Ingredients

I used the following ingredients for these precious Chocolate Christmas Mice: Maraschino cherries with stems, dark chocolate melting wafers, white fudge Oreos, Hershey's milk chocolate kisses, sliced almonds (for the ears), jumbo red nonpareils (for the nose), green sparkle gel, and red sparkle gel.

    Ingredients

    Preparing the Ingredients

First, I counted out 24 sliced almonds, and paired them for equal sizes. These were for the ears of the Chocolate Christmas Mice.

Then, I rinsed 12 maraschino cherries, and dried them well on paper towels. It's important that the cherries are as dry as possible. Otherwise, the chocolate will not stick to them.

Next, I melted the chocolate melting wafers in the microwave according to the package directions. Once it was almost melted, I added a teaspoon of oil to thin it out a bit.

    Making the Chocolate Christmas Mice

About the time I had everything ready to make the Chocolate Christmas Mice, the Master Taste Tester walked by. He glanced over and said that it looks like making the Christmas Mice is going to be finicky. He was right! While the different steps in making the Christmas Mice were not too involved, going from one step to the other was indeed finicky. I'll explain why!

Holding the cherry by its stem, I dipped it into the chocolate. I let the excess chocolate drip off before placing the cherry on one side of the Oreo. This was straightforward.

Next, I pressed a Hershey's kiss to the side of the cherry opposite the stem. I quickly learned that I had to hold the kiss against the cherry for 10 seconds or so to allow the chocolate to start to set.

After that, I placed two almond slices between the Hershey's kiss and the cherry for the ears. This was indeed finicky until I decided to drizzle some extra melted chocolate between the kiss and the cherry. Still, I had to hold the almond slices for around 10 seconds to allow the chocolate to start to set.

I then used a toothpick to dab some chocolate on the Hershey's kiss so that I could adhere the eyes and the nose. This was pretty straightforward.

I repeated this process with the remaining ingredients.

    Making the Christmas Treats

After allowing the chocolate to completely set, I used the green and red sparkle gel to decorate the other side of the Oreo.

I ended up with 12 absolutely adorable Chocolate Christmas Mice. Yum!

    Ingredients

    • 12 Maraschino Cherries with stems
    • 1 cup Chocolate Melting Wafers (See Note 1)
    • 1 teaspoon Vegetable oil
    • 12 White Fudge Oreos
    • 12 Hershey's Kisses, unwrapped
    • 24 Sliced almonds
    • 24 Candy eyes
    • 12 Red jumbo nonpareils
    • Green sparkle gel
    • Red sparkle gel

    Instructions

    • Rinse cherries in cold water; pat dry with paper towels.
    • Melt chocolate wafers in microwave according to package directions. Stir in vegetable oil to thin chocolate.
    • Holding cherries by the stem, dip into melted chocolate; allow excess to drip. Place on one side of Oreo. Place Hershey's kiss on side of chocolate covered cherry opposite the stem. Hold for 10 seconds to allow to set.
    • Drizzle a small amount of melted chocolate between Hershey's kiss and cherry. Place two sliced almonds between Hershey's kiss and cherry for the ears; hold for 10 seconds to allow to set.
    • Using a toothpick, dab a small amount of melted chocolate on Hershey's kiss to place eyes and nose.
    • Draw holly leaves with red berries in center on the other side of the Oreo with the red and green gel. (See Note 2)
    • Store in airtight container. Yield 12 Chocolate Christmas Mice.

    Tips/Notes

    1. If you have leftover melted chocolate, mix it with peanuts and drop by teaspoons onto wax or parchment paper. It makes delicious candy.
    2. The sparkle gel does not get hard. Therefore, if you want to transport the Christmas Mice, use some sort of frosting that will harden.

        Delores,

I can't think of any way that the Christmas Mice could be packages such that they could be shipped.

        Sorry,

        Chula
