    Ingredients - Here's What You'll Need

    Ingredients for burger slider cookies
    • The Bun: I used store-bought peanut butter cookie dough topped with sesame seeds for the burger bun.
    • The Burger: I used half of an Oreo Cakester for the burger.
    • The Fixins: I used red and yellow candy melts to mimic the ketchup and mustard and green-dyed coconut flakes to mimic the lettuce.

    Preparing the Ingredients

    1. As a first step, I colored the coconut flakes green. To do this, I diluted several drops of green gel food color in about a tablespoon of hot water.
Adding gel food color to hot water.
    1. Then, I added about a teaspoon of the diluted gel food color to the coconut flakes I had placed in a jar. I secured the top of the jar. I gave the jar a good shake until the color was evenly distributed and spread the colored coconut on wax paper to dry.

    1. I used peanut butter cookie dough for the burger buns, cutting each piece in half.
    1. Then, I rolled each half into a ball between the palms of my hands.

    1. I dipped one of the peanut butter cookie dough balls in sesame seeds for the top of the bun and left the other dough ball plain for the bottom of the bun.
    1. I flattened each cookie dough ball to about ¼-inch and placed it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. I repeated this with the remaining cookie dough.

    1. I baked the peanut butter cookies at 350°F for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, I removed them from the oven and transferred them to a wire rack to cool completely.

    1. For the remainder of the prep, I cut each Oreo Cakester in half to mimic the burger. Finally, I melted the yellow and red candy melts in the microwave according to the package directions.

Assembling the Burger Slider Cookies - Step-by-Step Directions

Once I had everything prepped, it was time to assemble the burger cookie sliders.

    1. I started by placing one of the cookies without sesame seeds top down on a flat surface for the bottom burger bun. Then, I placed a dollop of melted yellow candy melts in the center of the cookie. The purpose of the melted candy melt was to hold the next ingredient in place!

    1. Next, I placed half of the Oreo Cakester icing side down on the bottom cookie, and topped it with some melted yellow candy melts. The Oreo Cakester mimicked the hamburger, and the white icing mimicked mayonnaise! The melted yellow candy melts mimicked yellow mustard.

    1. After that, I added some of the green-colored coconut flakes to mimic lettuce.

    1. Finally, I topped the burger slider cookie with a sesame seed cookie and secured it with a bamboo cocktail pick that I had broken to a length of about three inches.

These Burger Slider Cookies are incredibly easy to make and show-stoppingly adorable. With their playful design and delicious combination of flavors, they are sure to be a hit at any gathering. Whether you're hosting a party, participating in a bake sale, or simply looking for a fun baking project with the family, these cookies will impress and delight everyone.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can homemade cookie dough be substituted for the store-bought peanut butter cookie dough?

Absolutely! If you prefer homemade cookie dough, feel free to use your favorite peanut butter cookie recipe.

What is the size of these burger slider cookies?

Each burger slider cookie is 2 inches in diameter. The Orea Cakester that I used for the "burger" was the limiting factor - it was 2 inches in diameter.

Could store-bought cookies be substituted for the cookies you had to bake?

When I started experimenting with this recipe, I knew that for appearance, I wanted to use a bamboo cocktail pick to secure the cookie. Therefore, I needed a soft cookie that wouldn't break when I used the pick. In addition, I needed a 2-inch cookie to go with the Oreo Cakester "burger." I looked in several local grocery stores for a suitable substitute and came up empty-handed. Therefore, I settled on the peanut butter cookie dough for the "burger buns."

Is there a substitute for the Oreo Cakesters?

I wanted something soft to use for the "burger" in these slider cookies. The devil's food mixture used for cake balls is a good substitute.

What is the best way to get perfectly round cookies?

The two keys to achieving perfectly round cookies in this recipe are to (1) ensure that each piece of cookie dough weighs the same and (2) roll the cookie dough into a perfectly round ball and flatten it into a perfectly round disc.

What is the best way to store these slider cookies?

Once the candy melts harden, store these sliders in an airtight container for up to three days.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • The store-bought peanut butter cookie dough makes 24 cookies. I only wanted to make 12 of the burger slider cookies, so I used the rest of the cookie dough for another purpose.
    • I experimented with using an entire piece of the peanut butter dough and trimming it to two inches right out of the oven. However, a half piece of the peanut butter dough makes a perfect two-inch cookie!
    • The Oreo Cakesters box contains five packs with two caketers each. I only needed six Oreo Caksters for the 12 burger slider cookies, so I used the rest for another purpose.
    • The icing in the Oreo Cakesters is relatively thin and messy. Therefore, I refrigerated the Oreo Cakestars to try to minimize the mess.

    Equipment

    • 12 bamboo cocktail picks, cut down to about 3 inches

    Ingredients

    • ¼ cup sweetened coconut flakes
    • 1 Tablespoon hot water
    • 2 to 3 drops green gel food color (See Tip 1)
    • ½ package (12 pieces) 16-ounce package of Reese's Peanut Butter Cookie Dough (See Tip 2)
    • 1 Tablespoon sesame seeds
    • 6 Oreo Cakesters, cut in half (See Tip 3)
    • ⅔ cup (4.5 ounces) yellow candy melts, melted according to package directions
    • ⅔ cup (4.5 ounces) red candy melts, melted according to package directions

    Instructions

    • Add the coconut flakes to a jar with a lid. Dissolve several drops of the green gel food color in hot water. Add about a teaspoon of the dissolved green food color to the coconut. Secure the lid and shake the jar until the color is evenly distributed. Spread the colored coconut flakes on wax paper to dry.
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a half-sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone liner. Set aside.
    • Cut a piece of the Reese's peanut butter cookie dough in half. Roll each half into a ball. Dip one of the balls in sesame seeds. Flatten each ball to about ¼ inch and place it on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining 11 pieces of the dough for a total of 24 cookies. (See Tip 4)
    • Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to rest on the pan for five minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
    • To assemble the cookie sliders, place one of the cookies with no sesame seeds, top side down, on a flat surface. Place a dollop of melted candy melts in the center of the cookie. Top with half of an Oreo Cakester, icing side down. Spoon about ½ teaspoon of the melted yellow candy melts. Top with about ½ teaspoon of the green-colored coconut flakes. Spoon on about ½ teaspoon of the melted red candy melts. Top with a cookie with sesame seeds top side up. Finish with a bamboo cocktail pick inserted into the cookie slider.
    • Allow the candy melts to harden. Store in an airtight container for up to three days.
    • Yield: 12 Burger Cookie Sliders.

    Tips/Notes

    1. I used gel food color because that's what I had on hand. You could also use liquid food coloring, which is available in grocery stores—experiment with how much to add to achieve the desired color of the coconut.
    2. The package of Reese's Peanut Butter Cookie Dough contains 24 individual squares of cookie dough. Each square cut in half weighs between 0.32 and 0.35 ounces. To achieve the same size cookies, make sure to use equal quantities for each cookie, i.e., weigh the cookie dough before rolling it into a ball!
    3. The box of Oreo Cakesters contains a total of 10 caksters. I used six, each cut in half horizontally for the 12 slider cookies. I tried to keep the same amount of white icing on each half when cutting the cakesters in half.
    4. To achieve perfectly round cookies, make sure that you roll each piece of dough into a perfect ball and flatten it into a perfectly round disc.
