    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of cake mix?

Absolutely! While a yellow cake mix is traditional, you can experiment with other flavors like vanilla, chocolate, or even a spice cake mix for a twist.

What if I don't have Heath Bits?

No problem! You can substitute chopped pecans, walnuts, or any other type of chopped nut you prefer. You can even use chopped candy bars like Snickers or Butterfinger for a different flavor.

How long does the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake stay fresh?

The cake is best enjoyed warm and fresh out of the oven. However, you can store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

Is this recipe similar to the one served at Disney World?

While there's no way to know the exact recipe used at Liberty Tree Tavern, this version is highly rated and captures the essence of the Disney treat with its buttery cake, rich toffee filling, and chocolate-toffee combo.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Temperature Matters: Ensure your eggs, butter, and cream cheese are all at room temperature for even creaming and a smooth batter. Cold ingredients can lead to lumps.
    • Toffee Bits vs. Bars: Heath Toffee Bits melt more evenly than chopped Heath bar pieces. However, chopped bars offer a nice textural contrast. Choose based on your preference.
    • Extra Chocolate: For a richer chocolate flavor, add a tablespoon of cocoa powder to the dry cake mix.
    • Chocolate Chips & Toffee Bits: Play around with the chocolate and toffee mix-ins! You can use a variety of chocolate chips (semi-sweet, dark, milk) or chopped candy bars for a different flavor profile. For the toffee bits, explore options like chopped toffee bits, chopped English toffee, or even chopped peanut butter cups.
