    Ingredients for Cheeseburger Pretzel Bites

Steps to Make Cheeseburger Pretzel Bites

    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a half-sheet pan with heavy-duty aluminum foil, place a half-sheet rack inside the pan, and spray the rack with non-stick cooking spray. Set the pan aside until ready to use, then put on a pair of food-grade vinyl gloves. Place the lean ground beef in a medium bowl with garlic powder, onion powder, freshly ground black pepper, and Kosher salt, then mix the spices into the ground beef with your gloved hands.

      1. As you portion the meat, roll it into balls, press it flat into patties, and lay the patties on the prepared rack.
      Placing patties on prepared rack
      1. Bake in a 350°F oven for eight minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and flip the patties over. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional eight minutes.
      flipping patties
      1. Once the patties have finished baking, remove the pan from the oven and turn the temperature to broil. Press paper towels on the tops of the patties to remove as much grease as possible. Then, flip the patties over and use more paper towels to remove grease from the other side.

      1. Fold the American cheese slices in half, then fold those halves in half again to get four small squares from each slice. Then, place one small cheese square on each cooked patty. Return the pan to the oven and broil for about a minute to melt the cheese. Keep an eye on the oven to make sure your cheese doesn't burn.

      1. Cut the pretzel bites in half and place the bottoms on one half-sheet pan and the tops on another. Lay the bottoms and tops in identical spots on each pan; this will help you keep track of which bottoms go with which tops. Then, place a small dollop of the burger sauce on both the bottoms and the tops.

      1. For serving, place the Cheeseburger Pretzel Bites on a large serving platter. Create a burger bar toppings station with sliced cherry tomatoes, sliced pearl onions, pickle slices, small pieces of lettuce, and small pieces of cooked thick-cut bacon. You can also add some mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard if people want additional sauce. You should also include some bamboo skewers so people can easily remove the Cheeseburger Pretzel Bites from the platter.

      Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best ground beef to use for these?

Lean ground beef is your best bet to keep shrinkage to a minimum. I use 90% lean ground sirloin, which gives you plenty of flavor without losing half the patty to rendered fat.

What's the ideal cheese for these mini burgers?

American cheese is the standard for a classic cheeseburger taste. I prefer Land O'Lakes American Cheese from the deli section-it breaks into quarters effortlessly, and you don't have to waste time individually unwrapping a dozen slices.

Can I swap out the American cheese for something else?

Swap it out for whatever you prefer! Cheddar is an easy favorite, but Monterey Jack, Colby, Pepper Jack, Swiss, or even a mix of your favorites all work great.

How do I store and reheat leftovers?

Keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. When you're ready to eat, just pop them in the microwave for 15 seconds per bite to warm them through.

      Recipe Tips and Tricks

      • Protein Swap: You can easily swap out the ground beef for lean ground turkey if you prefer.
      • Toppings & Sauces: Set up a fun burger bar station with toppings-like sliced cherry tomatoes, pearl onions, pickle slices, lettuce pieces, and cooked thick-cut bacon-alongside extra sauces such as mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, and ranch.
      • Melt Control: Keep a close eye on the oven when melting the cheese so it doesn't burn.
      • Sauce Sizing: Aim for a small dollop of burger sauce on each bite-somewhere between the size of a pea and a blueberry.

      Tips/Notes

      1. The ground beef package that I purchased was 1.17 lbs. I used all of it and ended up with 38 Cheeseburger Pretzel Bites.
      2. The number of American cheese slices you need will be determined by the number of burger patties you wind up with. I used a total of four slices of cheese.
      3. The number of King's Hawaiian Pretzel Bites you need will be determined by the number of burger patties you wind up with. I bought two packages of them just to be safe.
      4. Keep an eye on the oven when you broil the cheese. I did mine for 1 minute 30 seconds and that was too much, it browned the top of the cheese.
      5. Aim for a dollop between the size of a pea and a blueberry.
