    Steps to Make Dolly Parton's Southern Fried Apples

    1. Wash the apples well. Then, peel them using a vegetable peeler.

    1. Using a 16-slice apple cutter, cut the peeled apples into 16 ½-inch slices and discard the core. Place the apple slices in a bowl and set aside until ready to use.

    1. Melt the unsalted butter in a large cast iron skillet over medium heat. I used my 5-qt. Le Creuset Braiser.

    1. Stir the mixture until everything is well incorporated and the brown sugar has dissolved.

    1. Add the sliced apples and stir to coat with the butter mixture.

    1. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 to 15 minutes, until apples are slightly softened. Serve warm.

    • If you don't have a 16-slice apple cutter, that's okay. A large apple cut into 16 slices will yield ½-inch slices. If you only have an 8-slice apple cutter, that's okay; simply cut all of the slices in half.
