Ingredients for Wonton Jalapeño Popper Bites:

I used the following ingredients for these amazing morsels: Wonton wraps, vegetable oil, cream cheese, sour cream, extra sharp cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, and jalapeño peppers.

Ingredients for Wonton Jalapeno Popper Bites

Making the Wonton Cups for the Wonton Jalapeño Popper Bites:

I started by brushing the cups of my mini-muffin pan with some vegetable oil. Then, I placed the wonton wraps into the mini-muffin cups. Next, I brushed the wonton cups with some vegetable oil. I baked the wonton cups in a preheated 350° F oven for about 6 minutes. After they started to brown, I removed the wonton cups from the oven, and let them cool while I made the jalapeño popper filling.

Brushing the Wonton Cups with Vegetable Oil

Making the Wonton Jalapeño Popper Bites:

To make the jalapeño popper filling, I started by beating together the cream cheese and sour cream with my electric mixer on high until the mixture was smooth. This took about a minute. Before adding the remaining ingredients, I reserved several tablespoons of the cheese and bacon, and about a tablespoon of the chopped jalapeño peppers to sprinkle on top of the wonton cups. I added the rest of the shredded Cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, and chopped jalapeño peppers to the cream cheese/sour cream mixture. I beat the mixture on low until everything was well combined. This took another minute. That’s it for making the filling!

    Making the jalapeño popper filling

I filled each of the wonton cups with the jalapeño popper filling using my 2-teaspoon ice cream scoop. Then, I sprinkled on the reserved cheese, bacon, and jalapeño peppers.

Filling the wonton cups with jalapeno popper filling

I popped the Wonton Jalapeño Popper Bites into a preheated 350° F oven for about 6 minutes. After six minutes, the cheese was melted, and the filling was hot. Then, I removed the popper bites from the oven, and let them cool for about 10 minutes before serving them.

The Wonton Jalapeño Popper Bites were the perfect appetizer. The wonton wraps were crispy, and the creamy cheesy bacony jalapeño popper filling was amazing. Using the mini-muffin pan produced the perfect bite size. Yum!

    Wonton Cups

    • 24 wonton wraps
    • 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil

    Jalapeño Popper Filling

    • 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature (See Note 1)
    • ½ cup (4 ounces) sour cream (See Note 2)
    • 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded extra sharp Cheddar Cheese
    • 8 ounces bacon, cooked, drained, and crumbled
    • 3 jalapeño peppers, seeds and membrane removed, finely chopped

    Instructions

    Wonton Cups

    • Preheat oven to 350° F.
    • Brush mini-muffin pan cups with half of the vegetable oil. Press wonton wraps into mini-muffin pan cups. Brush with remaining vegetable oil. (See Note 3)
    • Bake in preheated oven for 6 to 8 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven to cool.

Jalapeño Popper Filling (See Note 4)

    • Add cream cheese and sour cream to a medium bowl. Beat on high with electric mixer until smooth, about 1 minute.
    • Reserve 2 tablespoons each of Cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon. Reserve 1 tablespoon of chopped jalapeño peppers.
    • Add remaining Cheddar cheese, bacon, and jalapeño peppers to cream cheese/sour cream mixture. Beat on low until well combined, about 1 minute.
    • Spoon 2 teaspoons of Jalapeño Popper Filling into each of the wonton cups. (See Note 5)
    • Sprinkle reserved Cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, and chopped jalapeño peppers on top.
    • Bake in preheated 350° F oven for 6 to 8 minutes, or until cheese is melted and filling is hot.

    • Yield: 24 Wonton Jalapeño Popper Bites.

    Chula's Expert Tips

    1. I used low-fat cream cheese.
    2. I used low-fat sour cream.
    3. To easily fit the wonton wraps into the mini-muffin cups, cut ½-inch slits on opposite sides. This allows wonton wraps to better overlap and fit into the mini-muffin cups.
    4. Rather than filling the wonton cups with the Jalapeño Popper filling, you can make a dip. Place the filling in an oven-proof bowl, top with breadcrumbs, dot with butter, and bake at 350° F for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
    5. I used a 2-teaspoon or #100 ice cream scoop to fill the wonton cups. It was the perfect size.
    6. The Wonton Jalapeño Popper Bites can be served hot, warm, or cold. Also, they can be made ahead of time, and reheated for 5 minutes in a 350° F oven.

Do I cut the wonton wrappers to fit the mini muffin pans?

Rosemary, it’s not necessary to cut the wonton wrappers. They are pliable enough that they can be pressed down into the mini-muffin cups.
