Why You'll Want to Make This Creepy Treat

Whether you're throwing a party or just getting into the Halloween spirit, Spooky Halloween Pizza Skulls are a delightful treat to consider for the following reasons.

    • They are fun and festive. Halloween is a time for spooky fun, and skull pizzas are a great way to celebrate. They are sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike.
    • They are easy to make. You can use store-bought pizza dough and sauce and your favorite toppings. There's no need to be a master chef to make this delicious and festive treat.
    • They are customizable. You can make your skull pizzas as spooky or silly as possible. Use different toppings to create different skull designs, or add googly eyes and other decorations.
    • They are delicious! Pizza is a classic comfort food, and skull pizzas are no exception. They are the perfect food for a Halloween party or family get-together.

    Ingredients - Here's What You'll Need

My daughter Susan started as my sous chef today and quickly took over as head chef to make these spooky treats. Here's what she used.

    Ingredients for Pizza Skulls.
    • The Crust: Based on previous experience, we found that the store-bought refrigerated pizza crust works best in this recipe. The reason is that the dough is easy to stretch and form.
    • The Pizza Fixings: We opted to keep this somewhat simple but include our favorite pizza fixings - pizza sauce, pepperoni, Italian sausage, and shredded mozzarella cheese.
    • The Skull Pan: You can't have skull pizza without something to form a skull. We used the Nordic Ware Haunted Skull Cakelet Pan.

    Step-By-Step Directions

Making the Spooky Halloween Skull Pizza was easy with these simple steps.

    1. First, Susan unrolled the pizza dough onto a floured piece of parchment paper and rolled it to approximately 15 inches by 12 inches. Then, she cut the pizza dough in half longways and cut each strip into three pieces. She ended up with six pieces of pizza dough that were roughly 6 inches by 5 inches.

    1. Next, Susan brushed the skull cups with some vegetable oil. She could have also used a non-stick cooking spray here.

    1. After that, Susan placed a piece of the pizza dough on top of one of the pizza cups and gently pressed the dough to form a bowl shape. At this point, it wasn't necessary to press the dough all the way into the pizza cup.

    1. She started building the pizza by placing some shredded mozzarella cheese in the center of the pizza dough.

    1. She finished off the pizza filling with some more shredded mozzarella cheese.

Susan pinched the sides of the pizza dough together and then pinched the ends together. She stretched the ends to meet in the middle.

She baked the pizza skulls in a preheated 375°F oven for 30 minutes until they were golden brown.

After 30 minutes, Susan removed the pizza skulls from the oven and let them cool for about 5 minutes before removing them to a wire rack to continue cooling.

    • Don’t overfill the skull cups. Leave about ½ inch of space at the top of the mold so the filling doesn’t spill over when it cooks.
    • Be careful not to overbake the Pizza Skulls. The crust should be golden brown, and the cheese should be melted and bubbly.
    • Get creative! There are no rules when it comes to making pizza skulls. Experiment with fillings to create your own unique creations.
