    Ingredients: Here’s What You’ll Need

    • The Bread: The perfect bread for this delicious treat is sliced artisian Italian bread. I used The Rustik Oven Italian Bread which I purchased at Publix.
    • The Buttery Exterior: For the crispy and flavorful exterior of this classic sandwich, I used salted butter, garlic paste, and Italian seasoning.
    • The Cheesy Goodness: A combination of Italian blend shredded cheese, sliced mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese produced the gooey cheesy interior of this sandwich.

Steps to Making Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese

    1. I started by melting the butter in the microwave for 30 seconds, you may need a few more seconds to fully melt the butter. Then I added some garlic paste and Italian seasoning and stirred everything together with a fork.
Stirring the butter, garlic paste and Italian seasoning together.
    1. Next, I placed two pieces of Italian bread on a baking sheet that had been lined with nonstick aluminum foil. Then, I spooned on the garlic butter mixture.

    1. Next, I turned one piece of the bread over and added the Mozzarella cheese slices, shredded Italian blend cheese, and Parmesan cheese.

I placed the other piece of bread, butter side up, on top of the cheese. I baked the sandwich in a preheated 425°F toaster oven on convection for 5 to 6 minutes, or until the top started to turn a golden brown. If you’re using a regular conventional oven you should bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the top starts to turn a golden brown.

Cheese added to the top of one of the slices of bread.
    1. I removed the grilled cheese sandwich from the oven and turned it over. Then, I returned the sandwich to the convection oven for another 5 to 6 minutes. Again, you’ll want to bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the regular oven.

    1. Next, I removed the garlic bread grilled cheese from the oven, turned it over, and sprinkled Parmesan cheese on top. I returned the sandwich to the oven for another minute or so, or until the cheese was melted.

    1. I removed the grilled cheese sandwich from the oven one last time and transferred it to a wire rack to cool slightly. Then, I placed it on a cutting board and cut the sandwich in half.

I served the sandwich with a green salad and marinara sauce on the side for dipping.

Garlic bread grilled cheese is perfect for lunch, dinner, or a tasty snack. It is sure to satisfy your cravings for cheesy, garlicky goodness. Yum!

    Recipe Frequently Asked Questions

Can this sandwich be made on the stovetop in a skillet?

I like to use the toaster oven for this sandwich because it’s easier to ensure that it doesn’t burn. However, you could also make the sandwich on the stovetop in a skillet.

Can fresh garlic be used instead of garlic paste?

If you don’t have garlic paste, you can use fresh garlic. However, I would infuse the butter with garlic and then strain the garlic out to get rid of the bits of garlic, since garlic has a tendency to burn.

Can other types of bread be used for this recipe?

My favorite bread to use in this recipe is Italian bread. However, feel free to use your favorite bread for making grilled cheese sandwiches.

    What about leftovers?

Leftovers, if any, can be wrapped well and be stored in the refrigerator for a day or two. Reheat in the toaster oven at 400°F for 5 to 10 minutes to crisp the bread.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Keep a close eye on the garlic bread grilled cheese while it’s cooking. It can quickly go from a perfect golden brown to overcooked.
    • I like to spoon the garlic butter on the bread instead of brushing it on. You want enough of the butter to coat the bread but not enough to soak the bread.
    • You might be tempted to add more cheese to this sandwich. However, the quantity of cheese should complement the garlic bread, not overshadow it.

    Chula’s Expert Tips

    1. May substitute unsalted butter for salted butter.
    2. May substitute 1 clove of minced fresh garlic for garlic paste.
    3. If using a conventional oven without convection, increase the cooking time to 8 to 10 minutes for sides one and two.
