    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Quick and Easy: The best smoothies are those that are quick and easy. With simple ingredients, this strawberry smoothie definitely fits that definition. You can have a healthy and refreshing drink ready to enjoy in just a few minutes.
    • Healthy: Strawberries are a good source of vitamin C and other vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They are also low in calories and fat. When you combine strawberries with milk, you create a smoothie packed with nutrients.
    • Perfect for a Snack or Meal: This simple strawberry smoothie can be enjoyed as a snack or a meal. It is a great option for a quick breakfast, an afternoon snack, or a post-workout drink.
    • Customizable: While this strawberry smoothie is delicious on its own, you can easily customize it to your taste. For a creamier texture, make a strawberry banana smoothie recipe. Add a scoop of protein powder to boost energy or a handful of spinach for a hidden dose of greens.

    Ingredients - Here's What You'll Need

With only three ingredients, the strawberry smoothie is the ultimate in simplicity.

    Ingredients needed for strawberrry smoothie.
    • The Strawberries: For this delicious treat, I used frozen strawberries. I made sure that the frozen strawberries were not in syrup—more about frozen strawberries below.
    • Added Strawberry Taste: I used strawberry fruit spread to give the smoothie a more strawberry taste and some sweetness.
    • The Liquid: For the liquid, I used whole milk.

    Why Frozen Strawberries?

You might think that fresh strawberries would be preferable to frozen strawberries. You could use fresh strawberries, but you would have to add ice to the smoothie to thicken it.

Many smoothie recipes call for the addition of ice. When the ice is crushed in the blender, it thickens the smoothie. However, the ice also tends to dilute the flavor.

Frozen strawberries eliminate the need to add ice without diluting the flavor. In addition, they are available year-round, so it's easy to keep some in your freezer for whenever the urge strikes!

Making the Strawberry Smoothie - Step-by-Step

This smoothie recipe has to be one of the easiest recipes around.

    1. I added the frozen strawberries, milk, and fruit spread to my blender and pressed purée.

Imagine producing something this good and this quickly with only three ingredients. It was the perfect treat for any time. Yum!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a good substitute for the whole milk?

I used whole milk because that's what I had on hand. You could also use low-fat milk. For a non-lactose substitution, consider using soy milk or almond milk.

Could strawberry preserves be substituted for the strawberry fruit spread?

You could use strawberry preserves in place of the fruit spread. The fruit spread, though, doesn't contain high fructose sugar like is often found in preserves.

Can this recipe be modified to use different fruits?

You can certainly modify this recipe to use different fruits. Examples include using frozen peaches or frozen raspberries. In addition, it's simple to use a different fruit spread to match the frozen fruit!

    Equipment

    • Blender

    Ingredients

    • 1 ½ cups frozen strawberries (See Tip 1)
    • 1 cup milk (See Tip 2)
    • 3 Tablespoons strawberry fruit spread (See Tip 3)

    Instructions

    • Add ingredients to blender. Purée until smooth and creamy, about 60 seconds.
    • Yield: 2 servings. (See Tip 4)

    Tips/Notes

    1. The use of frozen strawberries eliminates the need to add ice to the smoothie. Make sure that your frozen strawberries are not in syrup.
    2. I used whole milk, but could have used low-fat milk, skim milk, soy milk or almond milk.
    3. I could have used strawberry preserves rather than the strawberry fruit spread.
    4. Rather than a strawberry smoothie, you can make a peach smoothie by using frozen peaches and peach fruit spread or preserves. You can also make different types of smoothies by varying the type of fruit and fruit spread or preserves.
