How To Make the Ranch Cheez-Its: Step-by-Step Instructions
- I started by melting the butter in a microwave-proof measuring cup in my microwave. Then, I whisked in the Ranch seasoning, garlic powder, and dill weed.
- I transferred the Cheez-Its to a large bowl and poured on the butter mixture.
- Then, I tossed everything together, making sure that the crackers were well coated.
- I transferred the Cheez-It mixture to a half-sheet pan lined with nonstick aluminum foil. Then, I spread the mixture into an even layer.
- I baked the Ranch Cheez-Its in a preheated 250°F oven for 30 minutes, removing after 15 minutes to stir.
After 30 minutes, I removed Ranch Cheez-Its from the oven and transferred them to a paper towel-lined baking sheet to allow any residual butter to drain. I let the Ranch Cheez-Its cool to room temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions
You can use low-fat Cheez-Its, but the texture may be slightly different. You could also use original Cheez-Its. I would, however, avoid using seasoned Cheez-Its. The Ranch seasoning combined with the dill and garlic powder are all the seasonings that are needed.
It’s better to stick to the unsalted butter in this recipe. The Ranch seasoning is already somewhat salty, so salted butter could make the snack too salty. However, you could use vegetable oil instead of the unsalted butter.
If stored at room temperature in an airtight container, the Ranch Cheez-Its should stay fresh for up to a week.
Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Be careful when melting butter in the microwave. It can “explode” and make an awful mess if you’re not careful. I know this because it’s happened to me!
- I like to store the Ranch Cheez-Its in a gallon freezer Ziploc bag. Sometimes, I’ll store them in the refrigerator. When they’re cold, they have an added crunch!
- It’s important to let the Ranch Cheez-Its cool completely before storing them.
- For an added variety, try substituting taco seasoning and ½ teaspoon of oregano for the ranch seasoning and dill.
